2015 Summer Reading Program
Update: We have one more day of Summer Reading Program events this summer:
Update: Children and teens who read for at least 10 hours or 20 days and submitted the second tickets on their reading logs have earned a prize packet with additional prizes: a free pizza from Hungry Howie's, a free book from the Friends of the Library book sale, a stuffed animal donated by Kohl's, a free game at Zap Zone, free Cheezybread from Marco's Pizza (kindergarten and older), and more. You may pick up your packet from the circulation desk any time this month. We would like all packets to be picked up by the end of August.
If your name was drawn in the prize drawing, you will have a note on your prize packet indicating what you won. Prize drawing prizes included:

Hero Scavenger Hunt & Crafts
preschoolers/kindergartners

Children will search for pictures of heroes throughout the library and create a hero craft. Hero themed books will be available for children to read with their grownups or check out. Best for preschoolers and kindergartners; all ages are welcome.
Hero Buttons, Magnets, & Crafts
kindergarten - 5th grade
drop in between 1:00 and 3:00
Create your own buttons or magnets from our superhero designs or create your own designs. Also, create hero crafts.

Children who are not yet reading may listen as others read to them and may also listen to audiobooks. Older children and teens may read any books, ebooks, magazines, graphic novels, and newspapers. They may also listen to others read to them or audiobooks. We have a variety of genres and a variety of formats to assist everyone with finding reading materials they will enjoy.
Children may choose to count the amount of time they read or the number of days they read and will earn prizes for reaching reading goals. Prizes will be awarded after you complete 5, 10, and 15 hours or 10, 20, and 30 days of reading. Reading logs will be available to pick up from the library beginning on Wednesday, June 10.
Youth may also choose to explore a variety of reading and library-related activities through an additional activity log and earn prizes for completing activities in this log.

Meet real heroes and see their vehicles: firefighters and a fire truck, a police officer and police car, an EMT and an ambulance, Red Cross and their vehicle, and more.

Join us as we explore the science behind superheroes and their incredible abilities. You'll see demonstrations about energy, forces, electricity, and magnetism.

Children will hear stories and participate in songs, dance, crafts, and other activities. We’ll explore a different topic of the “Every Hero Has a Story” theme at each session. Registration is requested.

Stories with Symons Teachers and Principal:
Mr. Wright, Mr. DeSarbo, and teachers from Symons Elementary will read at our library on Thursday afternoons, in Wilson Park before our "Crafts in the Park" programs, and in the Senior and Community Activity Center before our "Hero Explorers" programs. Symons teachers will choose books with their third through fifth grade students in mind and Mr. DeSarbo will choose with his kindergarten through second grade students in mind, but everyone (regardless of age and school attended) is welcome to attend.
Registration is NOT required to attend these events. If you are attending "Crafts in the Park," "Hero Explorers," or "Hero Adventures," please register for those programs here.
