Summer Reading Program 2018


Our Summer Reading Program theme this year is Libraries Rock!

Children are invited to read and/or listen to books, earn prizes, and attend programs at the library this summer.

This page includes information for toddlers through 5th graders.

READ

Pick up a reading log from the library to keep track of your reading and listening.
• Read books, ebooks, or magazines.
• Read to yourself or to someone else.
• Read or listen to Tumblebooks.
• Listen to audiobooks.
• Listen to someone else reading to you.

You may choose to count how many hours you read or how many days you read.
Earn prizes as you reach reading goals throughout the summer.

Wednesday, June 13 is the first day to pick up reading logs and begin reading and/or listening to audiobooks or to someone read to you.

Dinosaur Day with Paleo Joe

Paleo Joe introduces plants, animals, and creatures that are extinct. You'll learn about dinosaurs and see real fossils.

What is sound? Why do objects make sounds? Why do we beat a drum but pluck a guitar? Learn the answers to these questions and more in this interactive program.

EVENTS for toddlers/preschoolers: 
Tiny Tales & Storytime

Children will listen to stories and participate in songs, dance, fingerplays, and other activities.  We’ll explore music, rocks, and more with our “Libraries Rock” theme this summer.

Tiny Tales includes about 20 minutes of activities and then play time.
Storytime lasts about 45 minutes and includes a craft project.

Registration is requested.

We'll explore the “Libraries Rock” theme with books and activities. Teachers and principals from Milan Area Schools will read some of their favorite stories. We'll make musical instruments, pet rocks, and more.

In the event of inclement weather, please call the library or see the website or Facebook page
for possible program changes.

June 27: Mrs. Jennifer from the library will read and then we'll make musical instruments.
July 11: Ms. Kliber & Ms. Stafford will read and then we'll paint rocks.
July 25: Mr. Evans & Mr. Adams will read and then we'll make a project with rocks; exact project will be posted when finalized.

Reading Rocks!
Teachers: Mrs. Monroe (Paddock) & Mrs. Miller (Symons)
Activity: Design a bookmark to enter in our "Our Community Rocks" bookmark contest and make one (or more!) to take home with you.

Monday, July 23
6:45 P.M. in the library
Theme: Rocks Rock!
Teacher: Mrs. Miller (Symons) and Mrs. Jeppesen (Paddock)
Activity: You'll create a pet rock.  The library will provide the rocks  - or you can bring one if you have a rock you want to paint.  You'll paint and decorate a rock to be any type of pet rock you'd like.

Wednesday, August 1

Theme: Music Rocks!
Teacher: Ms. Wagner
Activity:  You'll make a musical instrument.  Check back for details.

You'll solve a mystery together as a group.
*No Teacher TALES this week.  Just come at 1:00 or 2:45 for the mystery.

Monday, July 16: Make-It Monday: Pet Rocks
Choose 1:00 or 2:45.
You'll paint pet rocks and create homes for them.
Teacher TALES (2:20): Ms. Saylor (from Milan High School)

Monday, July 30: Make-It Monday: Puppets
Choose 1:00 or 2:45.
You'll create puppets and choose a story to tell with them. We'll perform a puppet show for younger children in August.
