Saturday Stories



 
Saturdays, October 17 & October 31
10:30 A.M.
on Zoom
planned for preschool through 2nd grade
all ages welcome

Please register here.

Saturday Stories will be held on Zoom at 10:30 A.M. on the Saturdays listed below. We will add additional dates as we schedule them.

These events are planned for preschoolers through early elementary ages. All ages are welcome.

We'll read 1 or 2 picture books and participate in related activities. Craft projects will be available for you to pick up from the library and take home to make.


Saturday Stories with Milan Area Fire Department
Saturday, October 17
We'll read a book about firefighters and then a Milan Area Fire Department firefighter will take us on a virtual tour of the fire station and talk about fire safety.
Take home crafts will be available to pick up during any of our Curbside Pickup hours beginning on Monday, October 12. Crafts will include a cardstock fire hat to color and wear, a cut/color/paste fire truck craft, and additional fire-themed activity pages.

Saturday Stories: Halloween
Saturday, October 31
We'll read 1 or 2 fun books about Halloween, sing a Halloween song, and participate in other Halloween-themed activities.  
Crafts will be available to pick up during any of our Curbside Pickup hours beginning on Wednesday, October 21. Crafts will include a paper spider project that can be worn as a hat or set on a surface, a paper pumpkin craft, and additional Halloween-themed activity pages.

If you're looking for books about school - starting school, being in school, anything about school - you can request a personalized Book Bundle here or email us at youth@milanlibrary.org and we'll choose books for you to check out through Curbside Pickup.

If you're looking for books about any subject to support your child's learning, you can also request a Book Bundle or email us for help choosing those books, too.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month. We are celebrating both signing up for and using library cards this month.

Summer Reading extended


Summer Reading extended

Our youth Summer Reading Program was scheduled to end on Saturday, August 29.  With some schools starting a week later than expected, we'll extend Summer Reading through Friday, September 4.

One more prize drawing entry
The extra time will give you time for one more prize entry - for 80 days.  The reading log calendars end on Saturday, but you can keep track through next Friday.  If you read every day, you'll get to 80 days on Wednesday, September 2.

If you haven't submitted your virtual tickets in our prize drawing and requested your prizes (for 20, 40, and 60 days), please enter here.  

Craft & Prize Pickup
We'll have another Craft and Prize Pickup Day on Tuesday, September 1.  Please see more information and request crafts here

Weekly Challenge 11: Emoji Challenge

Can you identify these nursery rhymes and fairy tales represented in emojis?  

If you are interested in reading any of these stories, you can find them in our library.  You can reserve them in our catalog here, fill out a book bundle request here and we'll find them for you, or email us at youth@milanlibrary.org.

Can you create your own titles in emojis? You can show more nursery rhymes or fairy tales, or any book or song title.

Take-and-make Crafts and Summer Reading Prize Pickup

The password to watch the videos is the first 5 numbers of your library card then -jack (#####-jack).  If you don't have a Milan Public Library card (or don't have yours with you), email youth@milanlibrary.org for the password.

We are offering take-and-make crafts for you to pick up from the library and take home to make.

Choices this week are:
- Jack and the Beanstalk project
- Origami basketball hoop
- Picture frame to decorate

Please fill out the form here. We will make just enough kits to fill the requests on that form, so make sure you fill out the form if you want to pick up crafts.

Links to videos and additional information about the projects will be available here beginning on Tuesday.

You can pick up crafts and Summer Reading Prizes on:

Tuesday, August 25: 2:30 - 3:30
Tuesday, August 25: 5:30-6:30
During those times, we will be outside the library with the crafts and prizes. Stop by any time during those two hours to pick up your items.

If you cannot come during either of those times, you may come by:
Tuesday, August 25: 3:30 - 5:30
Thursday, August 27: 4:00 - 7:00
Call when you arrive and we will bring your items out to you.


If you cannot come during any of those times, please let us know on the form (here) or by email (youth@milanlibrary.org) and we'll work out a time for you to pick them up.
